Same concept as some of the motorbike airbag jackets that have been appearing on the market for the past 3 years, protecting the body trunk / spine.
Mind you, I haven't heard of anyone buying one yet... :o(

How on earth would anyone be able to convince a Policeman that he is wearing a helmet with that thing on? Drive with this thing around and you will get the fine, and get sent to a mental institute...
