Everything people usually put up there is heavy, (firewood, tents, jerry cans, etc ...), and that just raises your center of gravity and makes the Jeep easier to flip. Anything heavy should be carried low in the vehilce. Roof rack makes it too easy to violate that rule.

Code Red, don't you reckon it depends on the purpose, usually roofracks are used for storage during long trips overland. It wouldn't make sense if one uses it to carry huge spare tyres, multiple Jerricans of fuel and water, lodes of camping gear and go dune bashing!!!

I absolutely agree with you that it makes violating easier out of sheer laziness on the part of the offroader. Would depend on the setup too. But ultimately, its his choice. Be responsible or be rash.

Offroading is a very dangerous hobby, but awareness and abidance of the rules of this sport makes it a lot safer.

But look at it this way, can a standard XJ cope with a roofrack like yourz on dunes?

Your tire setup and original ride height compensates for the lift roof rack and its load.

Necessity is the mother of roof racks on XJs I say

my roofrack is purely for aesthetics only .....

its heavy and the accessories i put on there like the spare tire and hi lift jack makes it even heavier

the XJ does lack power and it takes a bit of practice to make it work and hang with the big boys ......

The lift and bigger tires also takes a lot from the power of the XJ ...... bigger tires more weight ...... more weight to carry reduces the total power output of the engine

more weight on TOP of the roofrack the higher the center of gravity

in conclusion .....

install and have a roofrack at your own risk
