Advanced drive in what I believe it is our favorite area for all of us ... not much else needs to be said ... Drive started before the drive, a few of the "usual subjects" had to pull out, I hope all well now.
Even just before the briefing one of the advanced drivers had to pull out due to mechanical issues, I felt very bad for him, driving all of the way there and not enjoying the dunes ...
That being said, "less is more" so advanced convoy was Scorpio leading, Ehab and myself plus Mabubaker, no complaints here, quite happy with the convoy composition.
Early morning conditions were very hard, very humid, sand very wet, foggy ... the first 90min were a fight, not easy at all, things changed around 10AM, sand started to allow you to drift and the sun came out, a few very good combinations from the Shabkah towards the end of the 1st chain.
We reached the lunch spot before the interm, we waited there for them, after lunch both convoys merged due to some cars having to leave the interm convoy and some fuel (lack of) issues in our convoy, I am so happy with 159L in my FJ, love it!!!
Rashid lead in the afternoon, Ehab and myself allowed to float, which in those dunes is heaven!!!. No doubt it is the best area in those chains, there are some combinations that are insane, and also safe which is good, clean lines, no bushes, big dunes, perfect conditions. I know a lot of people have started going there now but still worth visiting!!!.
Personally very happy I managed to do the "Scorpio U-turn", it took me to the 4th attempt and I only managed because the Master himself took the time to give me some advice on the line (that he performed a 2nd time for me) and the recommended gear combination.
All in all a fantastic day in the sand, can't wait for the next one!!!
Finally many thanks to everyone that took part, first of all to the organizers, Scorpio and Rashid, Mabubaker and Shamsi for supporting to make the drive (and 2 convoys) possible, Ehab for giving me company during the drive and all of the interm that attended.
See you on the sand soon.
