Soft sand and sharp crests. alshamsi_m led us through a truly intermediate night drive. Our starting point was al Badayar shops and our end point was ifatar bowl. In between was a twisted track of bowls and side crests. Most were easy, but a few challenging. The viking rope did not come out, but there was one pop out and a few second tries The technical level was pleasing. Thankfully there were not many other tracks as compared to a normal day in area 53) so the going was smooth. One mechanical failure, but many to help. After Suhoor we packed up and drove to the road to air up. Thanks to all for organizing this Ramadan night drive. As always, good times, good company, good food. Thanks Abu Jimmy Hockey and ALKHATIB for watching over us.

Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Ramadan Bats 4.0 was a really fun evening, getting back to ‘the sand’ after way too long!

Bu Salem’s Suzuki tested us, especially the longer wheel base of the Xterra where I really had to work at those tight turns, but we had a great mix of dunes and a reasonable level of challenge.
It was surprisingly cool, great to meet up with old friends, and I particularly liked the chitchat at Iftar Bowl. Bu Salem’s harees was a real treat, and I’m glad the watermelon stayed cold.

I’d forgotten the new ADNOC service station at Al Madam, which of course allows tyres to be easily pumped up.

Many thanks to all the organisers.

Hi Everyone

Well last night I just proved to all the jeepers that I am still one of the JALs , MCLoud was my ride and I could see the old intermediates faces changed and some couldn't hidden to say the "S" word.

Everyone was expecting that we would drive the safari track with big dunes but I took them through the old school track " Soft , medium dunes with Sharp crests " the result was our youngest intermediate in the convoy got a popout. Another reason I didn't take you in the safari route because the " Night Solo " is coming soon and I don't want you to get familiar with the dunes.

After the drive finished, I drove back to join Abu Jimmy to recover the broke down car of bombays.... remember " We don't leave anyone behind ".

We had Sahoor together by Iftar bowl and the weather was COLD... I couldn't ask for a better weekend than this..... Thanks everyone and good to see you back ginger.

Cheers

Nice night drive.. Mark has said it all, smooth going despite soft patches and some technical challenges.
Arriving at Iftar Bowl, checking for our tea, my wife and I realized that we probably had left the kettle at home on the stove and the stove ON..
We already imagined the Torch at our Address, so we made a retreat and took off with Khatib, inflated at Al Badayer and drove home, luckily there was no fire brigade around the house, but yes, - the stove was on, -and a very hot kettle on it...
Sad that we missed the relaxing moments, chit chat, but happy that our home was safe.

Thanks shamsi_m, Abu Jimmy and @khatib for this great night drive

A great evening, and great drive with great people!

To date I have not been behind MCloud yet, but I have heard all the rumours. So, I was expecting surprises. With that in mind, I deflated more than I usually do, knowing also that we will be going through soft sand.

Well, unfortunately I had my first pop out ever. The exact scenario is still playing through my mind, and honestly, I don't know how I could have avoided it given the circumstances.

Except for the pop out, it was a really nice drive. Thank you Hockey and Eric for your assistance.

Once we arrived at Iftar Bowl, we had cold water melon, compliments ginger , good Karak and very nice harees, with compliments, alshamsi_m . We enjoyed chit chatting with really awesome weather for this time of the year.

Thank you everyone - it was a great evening out.

We missed you bombays , Abu Jimmy , Hockey , while socialising at Iftar Bowl...

Hi All,

I really enjoyed the drive, McCloud continues to surprise, the slow speed at which it can drive uphill on soft sand seems to defy physics. It certainly defied my jeep with an embarrassingly slow cresting. Great weather, great night, great company. I hope the cherokee is back up and running soon and there isn't any serious damage to the transmission.

Thanks for the Harees and the Karak alshamsi_m , thanks ginger for the watermelon and thanks everyone for the company.

Looking forward to the rest of the night drives :)

Hi All,
We all met at Badayer shops and started drive at 10.00pm. It was my first night drive this summer. Bu salem led us across all big and small dunes. It was indeed a true intermediate night drive. We enjoyed the weather and were moving @ fast pace except for few re tries and a pop-out. This drive gave us clear understanding that irrespective of whatever vehicle Bu salem leads you cannot expect it to be easy. This drive truely showed that driver is much more modified than the car.We were about 800 metres from iftar bowl and I hit my bumper on a sharp drop. It was a good lesson for me to learn. My transmission cooler got hit and it started leaking. But i was relaxed as i knew, that when you drive with Almost 4x4 you will have endless support and you will never have to worry. Hockey with abu jimmy made some changes in transmission pipe by cutting it and re joining it.Then Myself , hockey , Abu jimmy ,Khatib , eric and Mohd jaber exited for buying AT fluids. Eric and khatib were leaving and moving home. I enjoyed drive with hockey as a passenger. On our way khatib recovered a stuck Land cruiser . Guys this really shows their love and passion for offroading and their gesture and helpful nature. Imagine to recover someone at 1.15 am when you are heading home. Truly great spirits and no words to describe this action. Then Mohd Jaber drove me to Adnoc pump where i purchased ATF. We returned back to our breakdown point. Buy this time drive was over and bu salem and members were on Tarmac. Just then i hear on radio bu slaem inquiring our position and status. He came back and joined us. Myself ,bu salem ,Abu jimmy , Hockey and Mohd Jaber we all sat down and we did our Suhoor. I was really touched by the gesture " we do not leave any one in desert . We will get you in. Be with you and safely get you out." I am blessed to have such great people with me .Thanks bu salem ,Abu Jimmy , Hockey & Mohd Jaber. By the way this is not the end.

We then started to drive towards badayer shops. Still there was leakage and our objective was to reach badayer and transfer goldy on recovery. By changing Atf we ensured that transmission and Gear box is not affected. After putting goldy on recovery , Dropped Goldy at Almost Garage. Hockey was with me all this time and he dropped me home @ 6.00 am, Guys once again I am thankful to all of you and this shows we just don't say that this is our second home. We prove it with our actions.
Thank you Bu salem, Khatib, Abu jimmy , Hockey ,Eric ,mark and all the members to make this trip exciting.
See you all soon in sands.
