The safer approach is to look for members with stars, i.e. Marshals and learn from them, there is no question mark about there experience and most importantly they can transfer this experience in the right and safe way to other members and according to the grade of the member.walihali;13252 wrote:Thanks DH, I will take that advice when I want to try it again. What I mean by "FAKE" is that there are many experience off roaders in ALMOST4x4, but they are still having one star (newbie) or even still a Club Member like you, but actually they have experiences in desert. I agree with FSL, the correct word is interim :)
Don't bother yourself with people who may or may not have experience and without stars, as Caprihorse said, you will bump into many people who claim many things but don't know anything or can't transfer their knowledge safely.
always play it safe better than sorry, this is the experience I learned from life in general, nothing worth to show off for, that might risk yourself or your car.

I got back to the UAE a couple of weeks ago and just today checked in to the boards here for the first time in months. Walihali, thanks for posting your video. I'm glad to hear you are well and survived the experience (even if your FJ did not). This is a great thread. Put a sticky on it if it doesn't have one already. Lots of newbies will be out soon and, as Capri noted, this is a video everyone should see.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.

I am surprised I missed this thread but the Jump and the speed just rushing to commit suicide.
secondly I am more impressed/surprised by the active approach of your fellow so called off road buddies, they even didnt bother to check on the other side of the dune that what has happened to the driver of the UFO....
My advice is dont do it again and never go to your best friends even to the desert when they are not professional in every sense or at least THEY SHOULD BE SENSIBLE AND CARING:008:

I was gpomg through the page (http://www.almost4x4.com/vb/showthread. ... -Important) and came across this one.
On a light note I must say it was one Heck of a jump ( hats off to FJ and you).
on a Serious note: right after seeing the video my assessment was if it was me I would like to cross this in couple of attempts, like go with a slow pace and get stuck on the top and then go with slight more speed and if I am lucky I will cross or I will do another try..... but my first conclusion was I will never try this , I will prefer going on track and to areas where I've been with Almost4x4 Marshals and not every track only tracks of Club member drives as after 15+ drives with Almost4x4 I believe I can go on CM tracks ( yet to find out if I actually can or not but this is what I think).
And looking at the video even from far you could hear the bang of car and none of your so called friends bothered to even move, I felt like getting into the screen and see what happened on the other side, a great trait every member of Almost family posses. I fell I am not lucky but I am blessed that I only joined Almost4x4 and will stick to it.
On another note, really happy everything was ok and I hope you are still driving in sands.
A very good lesson for all the hungry newbies who are thinking of impressing their friends please watch this before you plan on showing off :)

Big points if this was a big air contest, but sadly it isnt. Glad to hear that you are fine. Hope your car did not have any significant damage.
One important thing when going out with friends is to always ensure that when in such off road areas, apart from the fun factor, each one should watch out for the other. For all one knows, (pray this never happens), you could have rolled over, landed on the roof, had a risk of fire etc, and you dont get any timely help.
Sometimes, we do things that we regret later and no one does it with the intention that something averse would happen. I guess thats why one should know the limits of both man and machine and play it accordingly.but when we do test it, ensure adequate / correct / timely help is around. Forget help, atleast concern.
