Hot Wings - Liwa Advance

After a great drive the whole day in Liwa, with our newbies, the advance and above land for camping and BBQ near Moreeb Dune.

@giorgio gave a show with amazing lamb chops, tks Bud, and we chitchat for long, even watching for some falling stars before sleeping.

The night was awesome, without the fog from the night before and a light breeze.

Early morning we had breakfast and @alshamsi_m lead the convoy, with @Daggerfall as 2nd lead and @rashidjazz floating and filming.

The drive was amazing, although the tires were suffering: we had a few popouts, my back tire was cut... but no more than that, what is a huge achievement in a drive at this level.

We did +50km at a high level, with some 2nd tries, many drops, many climbs and many "ohh man" moments :)
Several times i was pushing the car to the limit and have to adapt my track to the challenge ahead of me, what was amazing!

See you all in the sand!

Hot wings:

An advance drive in Liwa's unpredictable terrain that put every driver on a survival mode.

The night before the drive, we were all supposed to gather around the fire and enjoy the evening camp, but to get to that point first you would have had the skills to reach to the camp point, which although it was just 700 meters from the road, one needed to have Viking skills to get there.

Some of course reached the meeting point on a straight line and with no deflating ( we call this the power of the Hunger, you never want to miss on the delicious lamp-chops) and some had to fight their way there but at the end we all sat around the fire and we manage to consume 7kg of lamp.

The evening was pleasant with a fairly good temperature and the drivers were well rested for the next day's drive.

The morning was clear from fog and the trip started on time. The briefing was short. It was almost one sentence " this is an advance drive so there are no rules, you can stick on the track or you can make your own but i suggest that you stay on the track, second lead will be @Daggerfall with @giorgio as a third car the rest fall back. Now lets drive>"

The drive itself was a survival drive. Do what ever is necessary to manage to get to the next dune.

Liwa is a place that is unpredictable, you never know what is on the other side. Sharp drops ditches, cones, ditches inside ditches, V's, soft sand and in many cases you will have all the above in just one climb.

The convoy over all did great all drivers pull their share of load and after 7 hours and 86 km we re-joint the civilization with some of us kissing the tarmac upon arrival.

The losses as always in liwa cannot be avoided so, this time again Liwa won claiming bumpers, cut tires, air bags deployment pop outs, second tries, self recoveries and to my surprise the viking rope had a day off .

For a first time i had the opportunity to experience first hand what it means drive a straight line and in this style of driving I only have to say one thing.

You have to use every skill in the book, every term in off-roading dictionary and utilize you car's performance and personal driving skills to the max.

Cudos to the lead car that took all the risk and beating, greatfull to the second lead for keeping us safe from the insane first lead and hats off to the guardian angel that was floating around us like a hungry Woolf watching over its pray. On the rescue @Barish as always was there to coordinate and save the day with @Scorpio been in the back watching and monitoring the track ahead with his eagle vision. @Booy on the other hand was influencing the lead car to get the convoy into more trouble and i believe we owe him a big thank you for his tempting suggestions. Finally @presa as always was the solder to cry on. There is none in the club that can calm you down like he does even when you are dead tiered and you think you have no juice inside you, he will make sure that he will boost you up and make you drive another 2 hours with no efforts.

To close my report i have to say that Liwa won this battle but not the war. We will regroup and get to go back again as we have done in the past. This is a love affair that will never come to an end

For those that are new to the club I have to say this is a place that you have to visit and drive it
so built up your driving skills and be patient and you will not regret it.

Thank you all for the amazing weekend and looking forward to drive with all of you again.

Till next drive be safe

Hi Almosters,

After a long drive to reach Moreeb I drove straight to the camping point the moment my tires touched the sand with the motivation of Lamb Chop photos shared in telegram group XD

There was total darkness on the way but just after I crossed the last dune before the camping point suddenly I was welcomed with a light show of the newly arriving convoy making circles around the early arrivals sitting next to bone fire like sharks making circles around their pray grin

It was a great night camp with all long time friends with amazing lamb chops (Thanks to all contributed ) cooked by our amazing chef @giorgio . Liwa is a beautiful place....its hard to describe....sleeping under the infinite stars, the silence and the serenity.....beautiful..

The morning.....even better. Woke up early morning and sit on the edge of a drop watching the sun rise...again hard to describe. You need to experience it.

The drive...

As mentioned before its hard to explain how challenging and full of surprises the liwa is. In Liwa you try to survive. Even if you have good skills you should have the mental any physical endurance to keep focused until your tires touch back to the tarmac. Respect to @alshamsi_m for leading and going through all those challenges on our track.

It was a challenging trip and thanks to great teamwork and being part of a great group of people we managed to overcome every-single obstacle and challenge Liwa throw on our way and every one went back home safe and sound.

Looking forward to go back and challenge that beauty again.

Thanks to all organized, supported and participated.

Best Regards

Hello everyone,

What an awesome weekend in Liwa!!

After the newbie Liwa drive on Friday, we reached the camp after sunset, for camp night number two. Hungry and tired, we were welcomed by @giorgio and @Saeed FJ who had the fire going, and were waiting for the lamb chops to arrive such that we could be fed. @giorgio thanks for preparing all those lamb chops and feeding us till we could not take anymore, and thanks @Issa @Johanna for providing an endless supply...

With a full stomach, and a tired body after completing 140km with our newbies, I got onto the roof of my FJ and fell asleep looking at the amazing display of countless stars.

Unfortunately in the morning, I discovered that the front sway bar link got broken, and off course caused the axle boot to be shredded into 100 pieces. The offer for passenger seats were overwhelming, thanks everyone... Thank you @alshamsi_m for escorting me back to Moreeb to leave the car there, and for taking me back to Moreeb again after the drive to fetch the car. And thank you for giving me the prime seat as passenger.

Only the drivers who joined us will understand how much you need to focus on what is in front of you to successfully do a climb, do an arch, avoid the ditches, not fall into a cone etc. Being a passenger allowed me the opportunity to look around us, to find interesting bowls, walls, climbs, drops etc, without the need to keep my eyes focussed on what is straight ahead :) This is how it went: "Hey Shamsi, that huge wall looks amazing, maybe we can do a straight crest into the bowl and enjoy the big drop... Response: " Yes it looks very nice, but let's side crest into the bowl and see what happens." killzonesmiley

We had an amazing time together with lots of evil laughs in-between, and the innocent "Shamsi is clear" moments :) Not being able to drive on the day, turned out to be an amazing day after all.

Every time we stopped for a quick break, or waiting for the second/third tries, I enjoyed listening to everyone's stories, being told with bewildered wild eyes, of how they just conquered the last obstacle.

Thanks guys and girls, it was a fantastic day out with great friends and family.

Till next time, stay safe.

Regards,

Booy

Hello Everyone,

After the full day newbie drive, we made a small convoy to go to the camping spot. Bu Salem was leading and we had some ‘fast & furious style ORLY ’ driving on the moreeb dune road (those who have been to moreeb dune would know how interesting this road is, especially at night  ). We entered sand and stopped to deflate only to find out that we are going to have yet another interesting drive to reach to the camp – don’t know where that wall came from in between us and the camp thumbsup .

At the camp, @giorgio and @Saeed FJ were all set to greet us with the out-of-the-world lamb chops yaeh am not durnk. Even though we all were dead hungry and went straight to the camp without eating anything from outside but the quantity of food was enough to feed all until their necks  . Thank you Giorgio; love you buddy thumbsup .

The next morning was even more beautiful than the last one; the camp was on a height and there was a spectacular scenery around us with no fog in love. Following the breakfast, we were briefed by @alshamsi_m that this track that we are going to do today was done last time in 2009 in an advance drive; so expect the expected on fire .

So convoy was shaped in a way that Bu Salem was leading, @Daggerfall was the 2nd lead, giorgio was the 3rd car and rest all were all lined behind. @Rashidjass was sweeping and I was in front of Rashidjass. We had a drive on some really high dunes and big walls and the lead car did not leave any high dune tip untouched. The lead car threw many challenges to the convoy be it a climb with balconies and ditches or be it a v-shaped soft sand areas. The convoy did amazing and we had a great adrenaline rush drive.

We finished the drive at 0330pm and the amazing liwa trip came to the end. Thank you Bu Salem for this wonderful Liwa treat.

Thank you all for the great company. See you soon in the sand..

Cheers!

Good morning

Continuing from the end of the Back to infinity, and after escorting all the intermediate and newbie drivers to the petrol station safely, it was time of preparation for the HOT WINGS Drive (The survivors’ trip.)
Met with @alshamsi_m , @Rashidjass , @presa , @Scorpio , and went inside to get some snacks and drinks for the survivors trip ahead, the best part was buying the bed which gave me a comfort sleep on tal moreeb.
We reached the camp spot to find @giorgio , @Saeed FJ , and @Daggerfall done with the first patch of the lampchops, and we had the other batches of meat and @giorgio started his hobby of cooking and we were having dinner and chitchatting under the stars with an amazing weather, until it was sleep time, it was time to give a try of my new bed to sleep under the stars of liwa.

The next day, drive day, with no fog. Before starting the drive @Booy had a technical issue in his car so he went as a passenger of @alshamsi_m m

As I always say, no words can describe the fun we had in LIWA for 2 days, so it was a great weekend getaway.
The drive was amazing with some sort of poputs and cut tires, the only thing I can remember is that we had so much fun.

Would like to thank all marshalls, participants, and organizers without mentioning anybody specifically, you all done a great job

One love
Stay safe

Liwa Advance drive, is something which no one would want to miss and luckily it was my off this time and was fortunate to be part of the convoy.

First of all, big thanks to @giorgio for those special Lamb Chops. Man, you are the best. And thanks to @Saeed FJ for organising everything after reaching early with @giorgio.

Weather was amazing during the night with nice breeze, i didn't felt to put the AC on and had a nice sleep at the back seat of the car with windows open..... or may be i didn't realised anything, as day before was a long and tiring.

Briefing message was straight and clear, as what kind of drive it’s going to be and what to expect. Being an advanced convoy nothing more was required to be explained.
After a long, it was a drive where @Shamsi is going to lead and we all know it’s something special, especially when it comes to LIWA, its always the best who can take you pass through the challenges. (Respect).

Liwa is like expect the un-expected, the shape of dunes is completely different and it’s not even easy to read the flat area though. Sometimes surprises wait on the flat as well…. The plan was to Start from the Moreeb dunes and reach the Ghost town by 1400 hrs.

Again, kudos and respect to our leader for climbing those huge walls from the back, sometimes even in straight line (Not easy as it sounds), taking us to those big drops, passing by some dangerous cones and making us to do those straight crests where one do not know what’s really on the other side.

In Liwa it’s too difficult to read the dunes formation that one can’t be sure always. You’ll feel that one can side crest the dune and go across, however, there will be nice multiple ditches waiting for you immediately next to the crest... … (bang).

We all reached the tarmac by 1530 with smiles on the faces and with increased hunger for the next time.

Thanks to the Organisers, Explorers and Marshals for this Advanced drive.

Respect to Shamsi for leading us through and congratulations to all the drivers for making it a successful drive.

Hello Everyone

Leaving the desert at the end of Newbies' drive and thinking " Man I'm so tired, I don't think that I can lead tomorrow " ???!!!

There were 2 options to reach the campsite but when I reached the deflating point I suggested to the group that let us do option three which might lead us to the oil fields but it is faster. The answer was lead us to the fastest route to FOOD thumbsup !!

Started the drive to find that they made some extra tracks by Komatsu so I was happy with the easy treat but then when I turned to the camp to discover that I passed it and I came to Face to Face to the WALL side of DUNE !! whu I said in my mind " Oh boy here we go, another advance NIGHT drive in Liwa " .

Luckly, the dune was forgiven and allowed us to climb with no issues to campsite where we met @giorgio & @Saeed FJ in the welcome party blank . The next day I was feeling better to drive and the rest you know from the reports above grin

Image

Thanks @Daggerfall for being the second lead and being the safty valve to bring them safe, Thanks @Booy my partner in CRIME arr. & @Rashidjass for bringing the rest of convoy to the road yaeh am not durnk .

Loved the whole track and looking forward to the LIWA MARATHON in December !! you're kidding, right

Shamsi sign out ... cheers pacman

Advance Drive in Liwa..Full of surprises, unknown terrains, soft sand, and more..

I was quite upset at the beginning when i noticed that my tire might be leaking air and for one minute thought to continue till where it goes...when you are on those dunes, you will never want to go back. We stopped, fixed the pin and noticed that it no more leaks...now it could start and started..!

We passed through multiple dune chains the whole drive and touched a sabgha only once. Fast pace, site crests, straight crests, drops and many more whatever you can get from Liwa.

Thanks to @alshamsi_m for Liwa advanced drive showing us the tough face of Liwa...Liwa is really a different planet.

You understand that you should improve while you are chging more in Liwa..otherwise the sand sucks you in.

More Liwa? Definitely yes..!
