Wasnt sure where to post this or who would be interested but while planning my trip out to Liwa later this month I wanted to make sure we camped somewhere you could really see the stars so I had a look online for a light pollution map. Im glad I checked now, turns out all of Liwa is not created equal when it comes to stars! Turns out the south-west area is the only really good option within the 'Liwa Cresent'. The website is pretty slow but useful if you want to make sure you can see the stars when camping.

Matt, great information. Everyone says that Liwa is the best for star gazing, however the graphic shows a high proportion suffers from light pollution. It looks like the areas south of Al Khatim would be favourable. That said, you cannot beat the scenery in Liwa!! Last Liwa Trip with Yoghybear we started from Arada, at the left hand end of the Crescent, and it was pretty good even though we were only about 2 clicks from the road. Enjoy!
