Hi,

I just read an article about FJ Extreme and I found one future very interesting. They were claiming the hood scoop makes 5 degree of difference on the cooling.

Does anyone have experience about hood scoop?Which type is better or any disadvantages?

Do you know any shop where I can find & fix one?

Thanks

Hi Daggerfall,

I have the FJ Cruiser Xtreme, I got used to drive it for one year now. Then one day I sit in my brother car who has the non-modified version. And realized that without a hood scoop, you have greater visibility. If now you tell me with a hood scoop it reduces the engine room of 5 degree, I wouldn't care of it. It is only there for decoration. It is good to read the review mentioned but I wish these guys have more experience in the desert.

Its a good idea for a street racer , as the more speed the more air velocity and volume will be directed to the engine-bay through the hood scoop . Unfortunately its useless for off-roading as we travel at low speed most of the time . If you are willing to invest on your hood , you better consider " Heat Reduction " ventilated hoods or you can customize your own hood vents .
What goes around , comes around .

Thanks for the reply.
@MOMO you might be right from an FJ owner point of view since FJ already has very limited visibility but my car has great visibility so I dont think it will be affected drastically.

@Abu Jimmy venting also looks like a good option since it lets go the hot air more easily then a closed hood.(Also does not have the visibility disadvantage) But what happens when it rains? Or let say during car wash? Is there any way to close them?

It looks like venting is very efficient.

Dear @Daggerfall

I was about to post something smellier to Abu Jimmy. I had my FJ offroading for 4 years and never experienced Overheating in any month of the year. Then I got the Patrol and got shocked that even Japaneses cars do over heat so there must be a solution. Since we drive on slow speed you just need to make sure that good amount of air get in and smellier amount goes out. .

I have no problem with the amount of air gets in so I had to make vent holes at the last part of my hood because heat is accumulating there and it needs to get it out. Regarding the sand and water , your normal hood it is not sealed totally so sand & water is going to get in. the bottom line that with or without holes in your hood you are not going to stop the natural elements to get in. On the other hand you can put grill on the holes to stop the big objects and allow the sand or water only.

Thanks for the replies.

Venting the hot air through louvers (With Grill) looks like a sound solution.

Any workshop you guys can suggest?

Thanks in advance

If the scoop doesn't work, get an FJ :Psmiley:

Drove full days in July/August and the temp gauge didn't even move... While JK and H3 had to stop and cool.

Jokes aside, it depends on how hard you are pushing the vehicle as well. Monitor your rev's etc.
More air flow will no doubt help.

Cheers
