Hi everyone.
I’m new to Dubai, arrived just a few weeks back, but already purchased a Land Cruiser and had a small afternoon in the dunes with some colleagues, and I love it.
Someone mentioned to me this forum, and I’m glad to join such a big community.
I’ve read the list of the minimum recovery and safety equipment required.
But is there a list somewhere which models of snatch strap, shackles etc are good ones. It mentions “Rated” but what does that mean exactly ?
Is there any particular shop in Dubai you would recommend where to buy those ?

Also being completely new to offroad, I guess my Land Cruiser has the requested front and rear towing points, as well as the base plate for jacking, isn’t it ?

Thanks a lot for your help and advice.

Cheers

Marcinou

Here are my off-roading kit and the location where i bought them from:

1- Kinetic viking rope--> Almost 4x4
2- 2 nos shackles --> Ace hardware
3- 2 Ton trolley jack --> Almost 4x4
4- Kangda KD 868 Radio set UHF --> Dragon mart (BAI 05,13)
5- Shovel --> Ace hardware ( but going to be changed as it suits more gardening work) and buy the recommended aluminium one from carrefour
6- Fiberglass Flag pole --> Dragon mart
7- Compressor - the recommended is 160 L/min red one ( don't go for the smaller or cheaper ones from dragon mart as they don't suit big tires and they get burned; as it happened to me) --> Dragon mart
8- Tire pressure gauge and deflator --> Dragon mart
9- Flag pole bracket --> Car Accessories shop
10- Elastic rope and Elastic net --> Ace Hardware.
11- Jumper --> Car Accessories shop
12- Wrench --> Tools shop
13- Fire Extinguisher -->coming originally with the car
14- Wooden board --> Carpenter
15- Tire valves and pins--> Tires shop
16- WD 40 --> Petrol station
17- Box --> Ikea
18- Hummer H3 --> Liberty

It is recommended not to buy any tools from Carrefour nor Lulu. Also only the tested and recommended items can be bought from Dragon mart.

The post is very informative and will be helpful for the Newbies. I want to add few points with your permission.

1) The walkie Talkie must be with dial pad.
2) Air compressor - if you are buying from Dragon Mart use CAMEL brand
3) Tyre pressure gauge - must have reading bars like 1,2,3,4,5 not like 0,10,20...
4) Shackles must be capable of 4.75T

I have a question about the jack....i got one that says it goes up to 385mm and i just tried but it didnt even get the wheel off the ground!!!

Can someone please explain? Is it because the tire is fully inflated? (So this is normal) Or maybe it doesn't really got up to 385mm?

*i jacked the vehicle using the lowest point (closest to the ground)*

I had the same problem until I found that in the desert is a completely different scenario, if you need to lift your car in the desert it is because you had a problem either a pop-out or got stack. Meaning that your car body is close enough to the sand, and so your jack will be able to lift your car and don't forget to use a wooden plate which also help you with one or two inches. And if the tire is not lifted fully, you are able to use your shovel to remove a little bit of sand below the tire...
